Exploring Art, Inclusion, and Creativity at the Kunsthalle Bremen’s Kunstmobil Program

Date: May 5, 2026
Location: Bremen, Germany

As part of the International Bremen Peace Award 2026 program organized by Die Schwelle Foundation, Mahdi Yahya, founder and Chairman of Peace of Art International, visited one of Bremen’s most innovative cultural and educational initiatives, where art is not simply displayed—it is actively experienced, explored, and created by the community.

The visit offered an opportunity to learn more about Bremen’s approach to inclusive arts education and community participation. Upon arrival, Mahdi was warmly welcomed by the museum’s director, who personally guided the visit and introduced the philosophy, programs, and educational activities that have made the institution a unique cultural space within the city.

Unlike traditional museums, where visitors are often expected to quietly observe artworks from a distance, this institution embraces participation, creativity, and interaction. Children, young people, students, families, and community groups are encouraged to engage directly with art through workshops, educational programs, collaborative projects, and creative experimentation.

Particularly impressive was the museum’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Through dedicated programs and adapted learning environments, the institution actively supports people with disabilities and special needs, ensuring that cultural participation remains open and accessible to everyone regardless of background or ability.

Mahdi Yahya visits a cultural and educational arts institution in Bremen, learning about innovative approaches to inclusion, creativity, and community engagement through the arts.

Throughout the visit, discussions focused on the role of art as a tool for learning, personal development, social inclusion, and community engagement. The museum team shared examples of how artistic experiences help young people develop creativity, critical thinking, self-confidence, and intercultural understanding.

Mahdi Yahya presented the work of Peace of Art International and spoke about the organization’s experience using arts-based approaches in peacebuilding and community development, particularly within contexts affected by conflict and instability such as Lebanon. He highlighted how music, culture, education, and dialogue have been used to bring together young people from different backgrounds and create opportunities for cooperation, understanding, and positive social change.

The exchange revealed many common values shared by both institutions. Both believe that art should not be reserved for galleries and exhibition halls alone, but should serve as a living tool that empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and encourages meaningful participation in society.

Mahdi expressed his admiration for the museum’s innovative approach, particularly its ability to transform cultural spaces into environments where learning, creativity, and inclusion coexist. He noted that the institution’s philosophy strongly resonates with the vision behind Peace of Art International, where artistic expression is viewed not only as a form of creativity but also as a pathway toward dialogue, dignity, and peace.

The visit concluded with discussions about potential future cooperation and exchanges between cultural institutions, educators, and community organizations. It served as a powerful reminder that art can play a vital role in building bridges between people, fostering inclusion, and inspiring future generations to imagine and create more peaceful societies.

Organized during Bremen Peace Award Week, the visit reflected the broader message of the award itself: that culture, education, and human connection remain among the most powerful tools for building understanding and strengthening communities across borders.
