Location: Bremen, Germany
As part of the International Bremen Peace Award 2026 program, Die Schwelle Foundation organized an official press conference in Bremen on May 7, bringing together journalists, media representatives, organizers, and award recipients ahead of the award ceremony held at Bremen City Hall.
The press conference provided an opportunity to introduce the 2026 laureates and present the stories, values, and initiatives behind their work. Representing Lebanon, Mahdi Yahya, founder and Chairman of Peace of Art International, shared insights into his journey in peacebuilding, youth empowerment, intercultural dialogue, and community development.
During the discussion, Mahdi highlighted the challenges facing young people growing up amid political instability, social polarization, and conflict. He emphasized the importance of creating spaces where people from different backgrounds can meet, learn from one another, and work together toward a more peaceful future.
Founded in 2016, Peace of Art International has grown from a local grassroots initiative into an international organization promoting peacebuilding, education, humanitarian action, civic engagement, environmental responsibility, and cultural dialogue. Through arts-based approaches and community-led initiatives, the organization has engaged thousands of young people and community members across Lebanon and internationally.

The event underscored how local initiatives can create meaningful impact far beyond national borders.
The gathering concluded with media interviews, discussions with journalists, and opportunities for exchange between participants, reflecting the spirit of dialogue and international solidarity that defines the Bremen Peace Award.
The International Bremen Peace Award, awarded by Die Schwelle Foundation since 2003, honors individuals and organizations whose work contributes to peace, human dignity, social cohesion, and international understanding.
For Mahdi Yahya, the recognition represents not only a personal milestone but also a tribute to the countless volunteers, educators, artists, and community leaders who continue to believe that dialogue is stronger than division and that lasting peace begins within communities.
